Market Research That Actually Predicts Whether a Brand Will Sell
You don't need an expensive research firm to validate demand - you need to ask the right questions in the right places before you build anything.

Most early-stage brands either skip market research entirely, or treat it as a report to produce rather than a question to answer. The goal isn’t a document - it’s confidence that real people will actually pay for this before you invest in building it.
Start with keyword and search data
Free tools like Google Trends and a basic keyword planner show you whether people are actively searching for the problem your product solves, and whether that interest is growing, flat, or shrinking. This alone rules out a surprising number of ideas before any money is spent.
Read the reviews of everything adjacent
The reviews left on competitor products, both good and bad, are one of the richest and most underused sources of research. Negative reviews tell you exactly what’s missing in the market. Positive reviews tell you the language customers already use to describe what they want - language you should be using in your own product descriptions and ads.
Go where the conversation already is
Facebook groups, subreddits, and niche communities built around your category are full of people describing their exact problems, in their own words, for free. A day spent reading these is often worth more than a formal survey.
Talk to real people before you talk to a spreadsheet
A handful of short conversations with people who fit your target customer profile - what they’ve tried, what didn’t work, what they wish existed - will surface objections and opportunities that no amount of desk research will show you.
Treat it as ongoing, not a one-time gate
Market research isn’t a box to check before launch and never open again. The best brands keep listening - to reviews, to support tickets, to the questions customers keep asking - and let that shape the roadmap long after the first sale.
